The Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation started its education in the Institute of Aquaculture, which was established in 1933 in Ankara, within the body of the Higher Agricultural Institute, in order to give lectures and research on irrigation to students studying at the Faculties of Agriculture and Forestry. The Higher Agricultural Institute was affiliated to Ankara University in 1948 and the Aquaculture Institute continued its activities under the name of Kulturteknik Chair. Kulturteknik chair started education and training as a department in 1970-71 and gave its first department graduates in 1971-72. The name of the department was changed to Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation in 1991 on the grounds that the word 'Kültürteknik' was not well understood by the public.
Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Agricultural Structures and Irrigation was established in 1992 according to the Additional Article 21 of the Law No. 3837 published in the Official Gazette dated 11.07.1992. In the fall semester of the 2001-2002 academic year, undergraduate and graduate education began, and in the 2013-2014 academic year doctorate education began.
